Mount Giouchtas is a small but prominent mountain near Heraklion, Crete, known for its unique shape, resembling a reclining human face when viewed from a distance. Rich in mythology, it’s believed to be the resting place of the god Zeus. The mountain is home to archaeological sites, including an ancient Minoan sanctuary. It also offers hiking trails and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination for both nature enthusiasts and history buffs.

  • The hike is considered challenging due to the elevation gain and it's steepness at some parts.
  • It offers some of the most breathtaking views of central Crete
  • The mountain is also natural habitat for vultures and other animals that we see during the hike
  • It is about 7.5km long and it is a loop trail
  • After the hike you will have free time to visit the traditional village of Archanes
